Assembly Line

An ‘assembly line’ is the term given to a process of manufacture where multiple components are combined to deliver the finished product. It is referred to as a line because production contains very clear stages, which are completed in a specific order, traditionally by hand and using a conveyor system to transport the product through each stage of assembly. This can be an extremely efficient method of production. Common examples of this type of mass production are found in the automotive industry and consumer electronics.

How an assembly line works

Historically, each point would be a manned workstation, but today’s most efficient assembly lines are at least semi-automated in some form. Some types of line work on a conveyor system, which transports the evolving product through its assembly process. Our automated packaging machines incorporate flighted chains to facilitate smooth and efficient movement.

Specific operations are performed at each stage at a controlled pace until the product is fully assembled and ready to leave the production line. Each component, or piece of the product, is added at a certain point in an assembly line. Fully optimised lines will almost always incorporate automation to ensure precision and consistency across the build.

Whether large automotive or small-scale sundry packaging, introducing automated solutions brings a wide range of benefits to assembly lines of all sizes. Read our blog post about tackling the inefficiencies of sundry packaging lines here
