The pharmaceutical industry is currently experiencing a range of packaging challenges. These vary from increased output and distribution requirements, through social distancing to packing typically delicate products effectively. But with global demand rising, there has never been a better time to harness the opportunities and Jacob White is helping our pharma clients do just that.

From the very start of the global Covid-19 pandemic, the pharmaceutical industry has faced unprecedented demand. This has added pressure to production lines of all sizes to increase output and distribution, while working to strict distancing guidelines. As a result, many sectors are turning to automated packaging lines to help meet these challenges head-on.

Handling the hard-to-handle

Some pharma products are harder to handle than others and this presents a different set of challenges. Face masks have notoriously been one of the most difficult products to pack automatically, alongside tissues and other delicate items. Because of this, we’ve worked closely with our clients to develop packaging solutions to handle delicate hygiene products and most recently, medical face masks

Our packaging machines are industry renowned for their ability to pack tissues and other hygiene products faster and with perfect consistency. Using the same technology, we recently assisted in the development of a solution to finally automate face mask packaging.

Automating face mask packaging

Jacob White worked successfully with some of our pharma clients to find semi-automated and fully automatic solutions to pack face masks. After close collaboration and a tailored approach, we found the answer and were able to offer both semi-automated and fully automatic machines to pack their face masks.

The semi-automatic machine allows for manual product placement, but automatic carton erection and sealing. This enables enhanced quality control, while maintaining consistency, increasing output and ticking hygiene and distancing boxes.

We were also able to offer a fully automated medical mask packaging solution as a viable option for our pharma clients. This system was uniquely tailored to meet their needs for operational agility, regulatory compliance and to protect the workforce on the ground.
