More Opportunities on the Horizon for eGrocery Packaging

Retail has been struggling on the High Streets of Europe for some time, this is no secret. The reality is that eGrocery shopping is where the biggest investments will be made over the next few years. This will be opening new doors for the packaging marketplace that cannot be missed.

It isn’t just the big brands shifting to eGrocery. Some of the best ideas in eGrocery (and some of the most impressive growth) are coming from start-ups who are demonstrating the reality of a direct-to-consumer success story. With packaging in general accelerating in design and performance, many industry professionals are waiting for food and beverage packaging to catch up.

eGrocery packaging must do it all

In packaging, we’re hearing that ‘less is more’ and that’s what consumers want. In eGrocery shopping the packaging enters a new realm. Shoppers are not picking up packages to examine them; they can’t use touch to help make the final choice. This is where innovation is the most welcome. For eGroceries, the packaging must do it all – from pleasing the eye and providing the information, to travelling to the buyer in good time and in good condition with all the contents intact.

As eGrocery shopping continues to grow – and we’re likely to see an explosion in the sector following the launch of Amazon Fresh – so too will the opportunities for eGrocery packaging.

A solution that doesn’t cost the Earth

We’re likely to see the reduction of plastic use continue too this year and this will open up horizons for sustainable, eco-friendlier packaging materials. As consumers already want to feel good about their purchases, the hunt is on for a solution that doesn’t cost the Earth – in both the budgetary sense and the environmental one.

Making investments in the packaging production line can really tighten up consistency and save over the long-term with the increased efficiency, brand strength and reduced resource reliance that automation and semi-automation typically brings.
